The presence of soft clay soils in different parts of the land and their poor geotechnical properties, such as low strength and high compressibility, pose significant challenges in construction over these soils. Volumetric instability of clay soils due to changes in the groundwater regime can cause serious damage to structures built upon them. To improve the performance of these soils, suitable methods should be employed. In this study, waste iron powder and cement additives were used to stabilise bentonite clay soil. The prepared samples were cured for 7 and 28 days, and tests including grain-size distribution, Atterberg limits, and uniaxial compressive strength were conducted. The results show that the uniaxial compressive strength of the 28-day samples was 6 and 12 times greater than that of the 7-day samples when stabilised with cement alone or iron powder alone, respectively. Additionally, the optimal percentages of iron powder and cement were 10% and 20% of the dry weight of the bentonite clay soil. These findings are particularly important from an environmental perspective, given the utilisation of waste iron powder, which otherwise causes environmental pollution, for soft clay soil stabilisation, and will be beneficial for projects constructed over such soils.
