Because there are many nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds among various drugs approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA); synthesis of biologically active heterocyclic building blocks is one of the most promising research areas in organic chemistry. In comparison to homogeneous catalysts, heterogeneous ones have attracted more attention in the field of heterocyclic synthesis. Because heterogeneous catalysts are much more beneficial in terms of reusability. In this regard, various heteropoly acids have been used as efficient heterogeneous catalysts in organic syntheses and transformations. Therefore, in the present study, Pressler-type heteropoly acid supported on TiO2 nanoparticles has been used as a heterogeneous catalyst for the facile and one-step synthesis of triazines with good to excellent yields through the condensation reaction between semicarbazide or thio-semicarbazide and various alpha-di carbonyls under reflux conditions. The catalyst recovered from the reaction mixture exhibits long-term stability for several successive fresh runs with no significant drop in its catalytic activity.
