Given that one of the factors affecting on the instability of urban development is the weakness in municipal waste management, proper economic and environmental planning and management within the framework of the waste management plan is essential. Therefore, the present study was conducted to design a model of municipal solid waste management in Islamshahr township. This research is of qualitative type and in terms of implementation method, thematic content analysis. The statistical population of the study consisted of experts and managers of Islamshahr municipality with more than 10 years of experience and the research tool was a semi-structured interview. Targeted sampling and snowball technique were used to select participants. The number of samples was 21 based on the principle of theoretical saturation. To increase the scientific validity of the results, two methods of triangulation and member validation were used. As a result of data analysis, 128 initial codes, 34 basic themes, 6 organizing themes and 1 comprehensive theme were counted. Based on the research results, the municipal solid waste management model includes 6 themes: policy of waste reduction, waste culture separation and storage, reform of waste collection structure, mechanization of waste transportation, development of waste recycling and optimization of waste disposal. Finally, based on the analysis of the network of statistical themes, a suitable model was presented to improve the quality of municipal solid waste management in Islamshahr township.
