Abstract
To address the reactive power sharing challenge in droop-controlled microgrids, numerous wireless-based approaches have been proposed. However, conventional wireless methods often fail to achieve accurate reactive power sharing under varying load conditions. This paper introduces a novel wireless reactive power sharing technique that integrates impedance estimation with adaptive virtual impedance control for islanded microgrids. The proposed impedance estimation mechanism effectively captures the mismatch in feeder impedances, enabling each distributed generation (DG) unit to dynamically estimate its local line impedance. By incorporating this information, the virtual impedance method achieves enhanced accuracy in reactive power distribution. Compared with communication-based strategies, the proposed wireless control demonstrates comparable precision in reactive power sharing while exhibiting significantly faster response to load variations. Furthermore, the method maintains robust performance during transient events and sudden load changes. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach are verified through detailed MATLAB/Simulink simulations, which demonstrate its reliable performance and practical applicability under various operating conditions.
