Currently, in many countries, the rate of urbanization has increased to more than 80% of the people of that country. One of the approaches of the officials of different cities in the world is to make different parts of cities smart, and smart transportation is considered to be the most important part of urban smartness. This research has been carried out by the qualitative method of theme analysis through interviews with experts and practitioners in the field of transportation in various organizations (government) and companies (private) involved in this issue in the metropolis of Isfahan. The investigations carried out indicate the implementation of measures and the activation of various systems in the direction of making transportation smarter in this metropolis. These findings in the four areas of infrastructural, technological and security challenges; management challenges; Cultural and social challenges and finally financial and economic challenges were categorized. However, contrary to the general perception, financial and economic challenges are a small part of the listed challenges. The priority of managerial, cultural and social challenges and infrastructural, technological and security challenges are very important and each of them alone can influence the success or failure of transportation smartening projects.
