Abstract
Today, flight delays caused by various factors are one of the most fundamental challenges in the air transportation system. One of the main factors of these delays is the breakdown of planes and the time-consuming nature of replacing them with another plane. Finding the best airports to deploy these replacement planes can help reduce the time it takes for them to arrive at the requesting airports and thus reduce flight delays. On the other hand, meta-heuristic algorithms, including the bee algorithm, have been used in recent years and have shown their high abilities in solving problems and optimizations in various fields. Therefore, in this research, it was decided to use the bee meta-heuristic algorithm in order to find suitable airports for the deployment of replacement planes as a problem with discrete variables. On the other hand, in the local search mechanism section of the bee algorithm, a change to improve the performance of the algorithm has been given and suggested as the main goal of the research. The proposed algorithm has shown a significant performance improvement in the convergence parts of the algorithm, the repeatability of the results, and the average number of repetitions to achieve the best result. Of course, the proposed algorithm was also applied to the traveling salesman and knapsack problems, which showed a suitable performance improvement. For modeling and simulation, Anylogic, a powerful simulation software, has been used for agent-based simulation of the air transport network.
