Understanding the concept of research productivity: an application of the phenomenological strategy

Abstract

The aim of the present study was to understand the concept of research productivity in Iran's higher education system from the perspective of university faculty members. The research has used an interpretative and qualitative approach and a phenomenological strategy. The potential participants of the research included 21 professors from western universities (Kurdistan, Razi Kermanshah, Ilam & Buali Sina Hamedan) who were selected purposefully and with maximum diversity and the process of collecting information continued until reaching theoretical saturation. were collected using a semi-structured interview protocol. In the present study, to increase the validity and reliability of the research, solutions such as involvement and long and active participation of researchers in the research field, use of audio recorders to record data, and preparation of code book. Data analysis was done by theoretical coding method . The results of the research showed that research productivity includes three themes: the responsiveness of the research (modernity, reference and comprehensiveness of expertise), the originality of the research problem (scientific, professional and applied originality) and the openness of the research (increasing knowledge capital, scientific Understanding and transparency is the nature and scope of research. Also, the dimensions and components of research productivity were also identified in three main technical, content & communication dimensions. The technical dimension includes: internal coherence, credibility of documents & reliability and validity of tools. The content dimension shows the nature and existence of the research that is done with the appropriate method.
