Comparison of Emotional Investment in the Body and Social Adjustment of Athletic and Non-Athlete Students

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to compare emotional investment in the body and social adjustment of male athletes and non-athletes in the second year of elementary school. The research method was descriptive-comparative. The statistical population included male students of the second year of elementary school in Tehran in the academic year of 2019-2020, of whom 206 were selected as a sample by random cluster sampling. To collect data, two questionnaires were used. The face and content validity of the questionnaires were confirmed by experts and their reliability was obtained using Cronbach's alpha of 0.80 and 0.98, respectively. There was a significant difference in the level of emotional investment in the body and social adjustment between the mean scores of athlete- and non-athlete students. In addition, the average score of social adjustment in students who practiced group sports was higher than students who practiced individual sport. The results of this study emphasized the need to use group sports activities for the development of students in terms of family relationships, school relationships, templates, skills, social relationships and attention to the important role of sports in students' perception and feeling, comfort, care and protection of their body.
