The Effectiveness of Clothing on the Treatment of Physical Diseases from Superstition to Reality

Abstract

Clothing in Persian is called pooshak, pooshesh, jameh, and rakht and its main function is to protect the body from atmospheric factors and hide the body from the view and opinions of other people. In addition to these functions, in different eras of history, according to written and authentic documents and customs inherited from previous generations, some people believe in other effects of clothing such as its effect on a cure for physical ailments. Today, the effect of some properties of clothing such as its color on relieving mental pain and even treating some mental illnesses has been proven. However, to prove its effectiveness in treating physical ailments such as the belief that a person with measles should wear red has received less attention citing natural laws and medical science. Considering the importance and necessity of not endangering people's lives and their health and preserving people's faith and religious beliefs by avoiding the spread of superstitions and answering the question whether from a scientific point of view, clothes can be effective in the healing process of disease. The research method in this article was based on fundamental and basic research and the result of this article provides a theoretical background to be an introduction to the concept of clothing in improving the process of physical diseases in other similar researches in the future.
