In this work, sensors for detecting carbon dioxide gas were designed and fabricated by using tin oxide nanostructured layers as a sensitive material for this type of gas. Pure layers of tin oxide and doped with silver metal (15 wt. %) were made by spray pyrolysis method and the effect of silver metal on the morphology and sensing characteristics of the samples to CO2 gas including sensitivity and response time and recovery were studied. Both pure and doped samples without installing a heater showed response to different concentrations (10 to 1000 ppm) of CO2 gas at room temperature. The results showed that the sensing properties of the sample improved by doping tin oxide with silver when compared to the pure sample. The doped sample with 15 wt. % Ag showed about 73% response to 1000 ppm of CO2 gas in a period of 100 seconds, which can be the result of the large surface to volume ratio and smaller particle size when compared to the pure sample.
